BELT DEFINITIONS

White Belt

Signifies innocence, as that of a beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwondo.

Yellow Belt

Signifies Earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the Taekwondo foundations are being laid. As your knowledge begins, you begin to respect the depths of this art.

For yellow belt, you will have learned the three basics to kicking proper; good ready stance, a good kick, and a good landing. Learning these steps will improve your center of gravity.

Green Belt

Signifies the plant's growth as the Taekwondo skill begins to develop. Increasing skill levels depend on your thought. Exercising physical restraint requires mental strength.

At green belt you will begin to understand the three distances for direction. Kicking while travelling forward, backward and on the spot. You will have developed on the spot kicking well enough to understand "when" to kick, or "timing"

Blue Belt

Signifies the water, which nourishes the plant as it grows, as knowledge of Taekwondo nourishes technical and artistic Belt development. Confidence is growing; find the line between confident and over confident.

You will possess a good center of gravity and will have a clear understanding of your "kicking" distance, and "safe" distance. You have begun to understand how to capture a target while traveling forward, and how to keep "safe" distance and capture your target while traveling backward.

Red Belt

Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away. The end of "one" journey is near. Focus and persistence will lead you to a new beginning.

You will understand most all of the basic kicking and travelling skill sets, as well as a basic working knowledge of clinching technique. You will begin now to understand when to use which skill set.

Black Belt

The opposite of white, signifying the maturity and proficiency the Basics of Taekwondo. You must be humble to continue to grow. Be modest with your knowledge to encourage confidence in your juniors. Black Belt possesses all of the basic skill sets and can begin to develop their own set of "tools". Black Belts can enjoy and develop the game of capturing their target. Taekwondo truly begins at Black Belt.
